Sometimes when everything falls apart, the real change can begin

  • Rating: No Rating
I don’t know about you, but I don’t particularly like it when it feels as if everything is falling apart. In fact, I really don’t like it. If you’re like most of us, you do about everything you can to hold it together…to keep the balls in the air…to stay in your comfort zone.

But sometimes, just sometimes, if you’re lucky…you won’t be able to hold things together. You won’t be able to stop the balls from falling…the seemingly worst thing happens…you’re laid off from your job in a recession and re-employment opportunities are slim to none….your spouse leaves you and it is the last thing you could imagine…your savings have been depleted subsidizing unemployment, you lose your home in foreclosure...a loved one is diagnosed with a life-threatening illness….you’re out of a job and you have no idea what you want to do with your life…

And this is good? For many of us, these are the times when we come face to face with our lives…our preconceived notions about who we are, where we came from and what our purpose is. We're turned upside down and inside out. These times are not only uncomfortable, but are usually accompanied by pain, anxiety, grief and feelings of hopelessness. And the majority of us rush to try to put things back together somehow as quickly as we can so we can make those feelings go away.

When we rush to put things back together too soon…we miss out on an opportunity to go beyond our limits. We put things back in their place and feel secure and comfortable again. We stay within what is known and certain. We keep our confidence, our beliefs about ourselves and our world.

But when we allow ourselves to be in the uncomfortableness of our situation…we are on the brink of uncommon change…the kind that transforms you from the inside out…the kind that enables you to overcome the odds to achieve your dreams…the kind that allows you to connect with who you really are without the trappings..

When we are comfortable with uncomfortableness, when we are comfortable with uncertainty…we will meet the future and its changes with confidence, boldness and excitement.

Then the real change can begin for you…for us all.

It wasn't until my last corporate position ended that my life began. That was almost three years ago and since, I have become the entrepreneur that I always knew was inside. I can't explain how great it has been to meet so many wonderful people through social networking, face to face networking, and introductions through my trusted network. I think about the movie "Lemonade" and how so many have been forced through downsizing to do what they truly love to do.

Amanda...I agree with you..we help and support people moving out of their comfort zone and when we ourselves as individuals and as a team live that way..people know that what we're about is authentic and real and the potential for transforming change is limitless.

Hossam...how right you are...life consists of many dualities...after feeling pain, we certainly appreciate when we don't feel pain and we see how easy it is to take life for granted. Thank you for your comment.

Susan, I love this blog post. I'm glad that the principles we live here at TR daily is "pushing ourselves out of our comfort zones" that is exactly when we grow!
