Bringing Fun Back to the Dining Experience!

  • Rating: No Rating
Remember back in the 80’s when the hot trend in restaurants was “Eatertainment”? Places like Rainforest Café and Dave & Busters seemed to be popping up all over the place. While Eatertainment ended up being more of a fad than a trend there is one place in Lexington that has brought fun back to the dining experience. That place is Saul Good Restaurant & Pub.

When you enter Saul’s you can feel the energy. There is a lot of interaction between the service team and their guests. It’s not just “What would you like to eat?” – it is fun, jovial and entertaining.

The occasion was my son Bryce’s 16th birthday. I guess my Bryce is your typical 16 year old – his idea of a great dining experience is a Chicken Gordita at Taco Bell. In any event my girlfriend and I decided to take Bryce and his friend Kent to Saul Good for his birthday celebration. We had a blast but what I found most interesting was the way the kids responded. They couldn’t stop talking about the experience. Here are the reasons why:

The service was extraordinary – At Saul’s the manager is always on the floor. Now it’s one thing to be on the floor and it’s another thing to be interacting with guests. The manager that night was engaging every guest at every table (not in an intrusive way). It was obvious he cared and he made Bryce feel like a million bucks for turning 16.

The chef (yes I said the chef) came by our table to make sure our steaks were cooked properly. Of course they were perfect. I dine out a lot and that’s the first time I can remember someone from the kitchen coming out to check on the preparation of my steak – extraordinary!

Here’s the topper! I dropped my napkin on the floor and one of the servers (not our server) came by and grabbed it off the floor and got me a fresh napkin – talk about attention to detail!

We had the chocolate fondue for dessert – off the charts! The boys were so into it. Especially the rice crispy thingies. The dipping chocolate isn’t just some run of the mill product – it is superb. Between the four of us we devoured the rice crispy thingies and our server brought us more.

Finally Bryce got his own special dessert – a signature at Saul’s – a chocolate popcorn ball! It was delivered on a plate with a special personalized birthday message to the big 16 year old. He was elated!

While the experts may not categorize Saul Good Restaurant & Pub as “Eatertainment”, there is something very entertaining about the experience. Maybe it’s the fun and laughter that is prevalent in the restaurant. May be it’s the fun, interesting, delicious food. All I know is whenever I’m done dining at Saul Good’s I walk out the door with a smile on my face!

That is outstanding, and oh so rare these days. Every place should be doing this to win guest over; Especially with the economy in the can, places need to be going above and beyond for business. It sounds like this place is awesome, and I will definitely have to try it out. The mood of the restaurant starts with the managers, and you can tell when you go somewhere if the manager's really care. It's all about having fun, and trying to make some cash while doing it.
