Amanda Hite

Ultimate Career Lifestyle. An Amanda Hite challenge.

  • Rating: No Rating
I have to share this experience because it was one of my "Top Five Life-changing experiences," and I’m trying to finish the freaking long blog series I started (that someone gave me shit about today. For the record this is post 6, 7 and 9 all in one. I’ll come back to 8).

Here it is...

I’m laying on a beach in San Diego. The weather is perfect, the sand’s warm between my toes. I glance down, wishing I had the stomach I had three years ago. My company sent me on a trip to this really cool Life Mastery class. Ironically, the class inspired me to leave the organization I've been with most of my adult life.

I’m charged with coming up with 100 things I want to do before I die. Being the overachiever I am, I had it done before the plane landed at the airport. Showing off a bit (and looking forward to some free-time), I share my completed list with the facilitator. “Great,” she says, “come up with 100 more.” ??!#$@ One hundred was hard enough. Two hundred?! Let’s just say, you have to get really creative. As I write down things like "get busy on the roof top of our favorite restaurant/bar in Laguna Beach," I hope I won’t have to share the list with my class. It’s breathtaking outside and I have ADD, so I add about 25 more items and realize it’s time to return to the class.

We walk in and all share one thing from our list. I keep my extra 25 to myself and say something like “Visit Fiji.” The list is a starting point for our next assignment: to define our Ultimate Lifestyle in each area of our life (relationships, family, career, heath, spirituality etc.). Off to the beach again. When we return and share this time, the facilitator tells us that our work is lame and asks "how big do you dare to dream?" We’re sent back for a redo.

In a matter of 72 hours I get frustrated, stoked, pissed and inspired all at the same time. In this short amount of time, we do serious work getting in touch with our passions, defining multiple streams of income and writing budgets. Ultimately, I leave with a five-year plan, complete with a budget and 12 months worth of action steps. (Apparently, this is a process only 3% of the population takes the time to do. A process I swear by now that I’ve done it.)

A few weeks after the class… I’m on the Cover of NRN and getting emails and calls to speak at various events. Opportunities to share and work my passion literally start falling on my lap. Meanwhile, my life at work sucks. Call it what you want, “the secret”, “beginning with the end in mind”, ”outcome thinking”, “God at work”, “build it and they will come”… All I know is, as I defined my Ultimate Career Lifestyle, opportunities to do things I had planned four years in advance started presenting themselves.

10 months later (today)… I’m entering into a working relationship with one of the most innovative companies in our industry. A team of change agents that will re-define the way we engage talent and do business forever. I’ve started my own company, working with my dream team, some of the most talented professionals I know. We get to help people not only find better jobs but discover and live their Ultimate Career Lifestyles. We get to work with our passion and expertise, helping companies recruit, attract, and engage today’s top talent. At this moment, I couldn’t ask for more.

Whether your an individual looking to define your Ultimate Career Lifestyle or working for a Company that is in need of a Talent Revolution (a drastic change in thinking and behaving with talent.)

My Challenge to you is to contact me to..

1. Find out how Social Media WILL change your business and how to get in the game

This is a freaking good read that should be set to go off and draw your attention to act like the alarm on your iPhone. You are amazing, wellspring of courage. I salute you, my captain!

I was late into finding this post.
I absolutely enjoyed it. SD is one of my favorite cities.
I'm glad you had a good time there. Keith

I think it is really awesome you were able to change your life, it's path toward something you really wanted.

It takes guts to want to do something drastic and risky...you made it seem like a piece of cake!

I loved it! I am not one that loves to read or has the time, but the way you write, so straight forward and honest (a trait that I love), I could read anything of yours, I can't wait for you to write your first book!

I absolutely love the honesty, Amanda. The funny thing is...I was actually getting ready to ask when you were going to make your next post. As it turns out, it was worth the wait.
