Andy, great advice! Sometimes I fall into the trap of being so "anti-negativity" that I become negative because I expect it. Tough to be a good leader that way! Thank you!

We are constantly striving to be a high-performance, fun-at-work-lifestyle place of employment. Unfortunately, that means we have to root out a few "historical performers" who refer to that type of environment as "Rah-Rah BS". When I read stories li…

This is indeed EERIE! And, you can drop an "e" and it still applies. I'll let you know the next time I'm headed up there. Probably the week of Sept 7th. Not sure if I'll be going to both places or if Erie folks are traveling to Columbus. But I'll le…

No, it's not. And one of the offices I train is Columbus, which is even closer! The problem is, I also have Erie, PA which is a satellite of the Columbus office. So I usually drive to Columbus, train, then head out to Erie. However, I'm usually in…

Ahhhh, validation! I LOVE IT!! This blog has actually (in my mind) given me permission to continue to find levity in every situation and ensure that regardless of what happens in the future, what I do right now has to matter right now! Thank you VER…

Andy, I love to drink scotch and smoke cigars on a patio on a beautiful evening. If it's raining, I prefer to do it in a recliner...preferably with a video game and some jazz. And, I actually do get paid to do that. Just don't tell my boss. I'm kid…

After delivering many training sessions, I always enjoy being on the audience side at times. I feel an appreciation for the trainer's prep work, their point of view and their style. A training style that works for me is a very open and permission gi…

What is your Ultimate Career Lifestyle?
Laid back. Creatively irreverent. Charmingly immature. Deceptively but strongly inspirational!
Current Company
Idearc Media
Job Title
Training Specialist
School(s)
Franklin County High School
Georgetown College
Kentucky State University
About me:
I exude facetiousness. I'm the classic underachiever with low self-esteem. Easily bored. Intelligent beyond his current job scope. Funnier than most due to a willingness to embrace immaturity. Willing to eschew the stigma of being irreverent and humorous in situations which most would expect to be met with solemnity or somberness. Inspirational without being wierd. And, pretty good with a microphone or blank page.

Interest
Humor/Creative writing. Sales and product-based training and coaching. Motivational and educational speaking. Songwriting and poetry.
My strengths are:
People remember more when you make it entertaining, funny, and slightly irreverent. But always seek to inspire!
What generation are you apart of?
I'm a GEN-X'er
My favorite thing about my generation is?
Big hair and tight jeans. I'm joking. We are resilient. We were young and impressionable during the disco era and still went on to conquer Rubik's Cube as adolescents & teens. We don't hold grudges. We saw the death of our precious hair metal and true alt/punk bands at the hands of young, flannel-clad punks; and we didn't laugh when the angst-ridden grunge got watered down and sold out to top-40 popularity as young adults. We are enigmas. We can become the most upwardly mobile generation while being referred to as "slackers" through middle age. And, we consider every source a learning tool. We will be the best-heeled retirees ever due to our windfall of knowledge from everything that DIDN'T work for Baby Boomers.

HUMOR - National Punctuation Day

As some of you may know, yesterday, September 24, was "National Punctuation Day".

I'm prone to levity in just about any situation. And, occasionally, much to my own personal embarrassment, in situations where it is neither desired nor recommended.

Having said that, a friend of mine is suffering from cancer. Not a situation that lends itself to much levity. But, looking at the CaringBridge.com website his wife is so diligently updating, it appeared that she was getting into a funk and life was… Continue

So, my wife and I have this running joke/line of conversation. It goes a little like the following:

She says, "I wish you'd either start earning a million dollars or win the lottery. I'm so sick of working, I can't stand it!"

I reply, "Tell you what, you're more talented than I ever dreamed of being. Why don't YOU start earning a million dollars and I'll go play the lottery. I mean, I love what I do. But it would be much easier dealing with those who DON'T love what I do if I didn't need the m… Continue

Ahhh...Perchance to Train

I actually wrote and used the passages mentioned here in a "Trainers With Talent" competition in Dallas years ago. I won first place, by the way.

Just imagine the worst training you've ever been through. Did others find it equally ineffective? Were there some that seemed to actually enjoy it?

Now, imagine the best training you've ever been through. What was the difference? Was it the trainer? Was it the entertainment factor? Was it maybe that the subject matter was something you liked? Did oth… Continue

Don't Be a Doctor TO a Rock Star! Be a Doctor WHO'S a Rock Star!

After Michael Jackson's death, there was much finger pointing as to who was to blame. One of the individuals under the most scrutiny was his "personal physician"; whom (it was rumored) provided illegal prescription drugs to the pop star which may have contributed to his ultimate demise. Many reports began surfacing that, (here's a shocker), many stars and moguls have "concierge" doctors that provide them with similar services, writing prescriptions for whatever the "patient" may want.

"PrescContinue

Reneging on my HYPOCRITE-ic oath!

Just so you don't hear it from someone else first (my co-workers, family, etc), I'm going to announce it here, in the public forum, on the internet, in front of God and everyone first! Ok, are you ready? Is everyone paying attention? Here goes.........

I am a HYPOCRITE!!

Wow. That wasn't as hard as I thought. But it's true. I am a hypocrite on so many levels.
