Thanks for inviting me to join. I am sorry I have been a little MIA! Writing is a big passion of mine. Spelling however... is generally my nemesis. Thank God for spell check! It makes my writing world a happy place!

This is a group near and dear to my heart. Like Leigh, my background is education however, mine is K-9 specializing in Language Arts. So....perhaps I can be helpful mentoring Gen Y. I certainly expect to pick up great tips for myself.

Love Strunk & White although it can seem a little pompous and self serving at times. My biggest advice (need to take it myself) is to take a critical moment to re-read your writing aloud.

I while teaching Freshman Comp 101 and 102 the absolute most difficult challenge for me as an instructor was to get students to think creatively. And to feel comfortable with their individual writing style.

Excellent advice, Joe. Also, welcome to the club !
We used the Strunk and White book, in school, too.
People found it hard to believe, it was written by the author of "Charlotte's Web" and "Stuart Little".
I always asked, what;'s hard to believe ? E B White is a WRITER after all !

The Strunk & White book is excellent! We used it in my creative writing course in college.

The best way to get started writing is to free write. If you can't find a topic, start jotting ideas down on paper until something comes to mind. Once you get the topic, search your memory banks for 2 or 3 stories you can use for illustration. Keep writing without slowing your brain down with punctuation and grammar issues. Somewhere in this free writing process, a cohesive message will jump of the page. Go to the word processor and put together the article.

Judy, thank you for starting this group! I need it!! I bet I break all the rules of writing... At least I'm charming and interesting.

As a former university graduate teacher of creative writing, I'm all in if anyone wants crazy ol' me as a mentor. But, I may need my own spelling mentor.
