talent revolution

Being in the tenth grade, this year has been the first year I have been experiencing the truly heavy load of stress. I must admit that I have slowly became used to it, and since the beginning of the year I have come up with a few ways to handle this new condition of life. My techniques range from exercise to TR breaks and are very usefully so far. However I am sure that I, and everyone else on TR, can benefit from new inventive tools on managing this little life issue, so please add to this discussion your tools of stress management, or even stories in which you triumphed over this little devil, called stress.

Great discussion topic Cameron. One everyone can relate to. It's tough to keep all those plates spinning. I wish I could tell you that there is some simple trick, but I can tell you that it is a talent. Like any talent, it requires attention and organization and practice, practice, practice. Deep breathing exercises help as well as walks with your dog anything that will clear the emotional cobwebs from your system. Remember these are all bridges and to get to your goal you must cross one at a time.
From what I have been able to see, you are a winner. Keep up the practice, by the time you get to graduation you will be ready to take on the stress of college ~ one bridge at a time.

What I noticed with myself is I have to STOP and take a break. For me it's go play my keyboard, clear my mind. I remind myself that anythings possible and push myself to come up with better solutions to dealing with pressure or stress. Sometimes it means giving up some things, or calling someone for advice or inspiration. One thing I have learned is I'm not worth $#@ if I am in that state of mind working. This is a great topic and I'm very interested in others feedback.

For me, I found that if I can take all of the energy put into stress and use it to complete the tasks at hand, it washes the stress away. At times I allow the stress to empower me, but I have learned that stress is a waste of time. I can let it control me, or I can be in control. I prefer to be in control. I take whatever it is that stresses me out, and I plan a resolution to it. Lets face it, some things you can't change, so why waste the time stressing over it? Accept it and move on. Life is short, and the older you get, the faster it goes by. You can spend time stressing over things you can't change or you can use your time to make a difference. Be a difference maker. You will find it more rewarding!!! Enjoy life to the fullest, who knows what tomarrow will bring? Live life to the fullest today!

Stress effects everybody different, and if you do not control stress it will break you down layer by layer. Stress to you may not be stress for me, so you have to find what stresses you out, and deal with it in a healthy manner. To be honest with you I use to let stress control my life, and I did not know how to handle it, but now I just think things through, and figure out how to handle the situation without letting it stress me out too much. However your tool of exercise is awesome, I like to get about 200 lbs on a weight bench and go at it, now that is a great way to release stress. Another thing that helps is comedy listen to some Bill Cosby or Richard Pryor and laugh it off. Thanks Cameron you are writing this discussions as if you were already in college, Great Job!!!

Cameron, I have a tenth grade son as well. He is very active in school and activities. When I notice his stress levels increasing, we evaluate his schedules and work load. Usually we can come up with a great plan and that helps. There has been an occasion when he needed to scale down his activities. He simply wanted to be involved in EVERYTHING and it just didn't work for him. At your age, the amount of school work alone can be stressful. If your feeling overwhelmed or stressed, I would focus on the things you are passionate about. This doesn't just apply to high schoolers, but to all of us.

Great post Cameron...here is what I do..

I grab a piece of paper and write down every single thing I can think of that I have to do from write a book to put my socks on....

Then I knock out everything really fast that I can do in just a short amount of time...remember the put the socks on thing.

That leaves me with what I have left. I seperate all the things I have to do under the people that need the item I am doing. I ask for help on the things that will take forever in my mind from the resources around me...for you maybe mom, dad, internet, Amanda, mom, dad, Amanda, then Amanda, if you know what I mean (secret parent tip...we will do anything for you if you are already working hard and ask nicely..extra benefits if you have already done something to help your siblings on something they need help with....sssssh you didn't hear that from me)

I then knock out everything that has to do with helping or doing something for other people.

That leaves me with just a couple of things left...mainly write the book....I knock out a couple of paragraphs.

During this process I get so much done, the stress seems to dissipate and I relax.

For later in life for you....a nice glass of Merlot and some internet reading on the back deck in summer kind of caps the whole thing off....if you don't have spring....stick with the Merlot

Great Post, Cameron. Great suggestions from everyone. I know that sometimes the thing that is stressing me the most is the thing that I am not, or refusing to deal with. Family and friends can promote this. Sometimes it is just easier for me to ignore the person or thing that is stressing me because I just don't, or won't deal with it. Honesty, expecially with yourself, is what I've found to be the best policy. And sometimes you have to break the eggs to make the cake.
